PETOSKEY, Mich. (AP) - A 59-year-old northern Michigan man who authorities say assisted a woman after the fatal shooting of her husband has pleaded guilty to perjury.
The Petoskey News-Review reports (https://bit.ly/1h0kGN6 ) John Ernst of Levering entered the plea Wednesday to two reduced perjury charges.
Levering was charged earlier this year with seven counts, including accessory after a felony and perjury related to false information authorities say Ernst provided during a hearing. In exchange for his pleas, those charges will be dismissed. Sentencing is in about a month.
Emmet County investigators say he helped Carol Kopenkoskey get rid of the gun used in Lyle Kopenkoskey’s October 2012 slaying. She pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and agreed to cooperate in the investigation. She was sentenced in February to 18 to 35 years in prison.
