MONTGOMERY, Ill. (AP) - A 2-year-old northern Illinois boy has died, days after he fell into a suburban Chicago retention pond while he wandered away from his family.

The (Aurora) Beacon-News reports (https://bit.ly/1iDvcy5 ) Mohamed Qattum died Wednesday at Loyola University Medical Center.

Kendall County Sheriff’s investigators say the Montgomery boy fell into the partially ice-covered pond on Monday after he walked away from his mother and siblings.



Rescuers pulled him from the water.

An autopsy is expected Thursday, although no foul play is suspected.

Montgomery is about 40 miles southwest of Chicago.
