OVID, N.Y. (AP) - The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office has charged an 11-year-old boy with arson for starting a fire that destroyed four buildings and drew dozens of fire departments to the village of Ovid.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports (https://bit.ly/1htIAS7 ) that the boy admitted to investigators that he was playing with a lighter behind a Chinese restaurant on Main Street when he accidentally set trash on fire on March 18.

Firefighting crews from Seneca, Schuyler, Ontario, Cayuga, Yates and Tompkins counties eventually responded.

The 11-year-old boy’s case has been referred to Seneca County Family Court. His name isn’t being released.
