ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The Albuquerque Police Department has released the name of the officer involved in the fatal shooting of a man outside a public housing complex.
Police say James Eichel has been a police officer since 2010 and hasn’t been in any previous officer-involved shootings.
Police say Alfred Redwine was shot Tuesday night. He allegedly opened fire on officers responding to a frantic call from a woman who said the suspect had pointed a gun at two girls.
Redwine’s family say he wasn’t armed and only had a cellphone in his hand.
New Mexico Attorney General Gary King says his office has launched an investigation into the shooting.
It was the second fatal shooting in a 10-day span involving Albuquerque police.
