YAKIMA, Wash. (AP) - Students at East Valley High School at Yakima have won a science prize worth more than $140,000 in electronics and grants.
The students in teacher Barry Reifel’s principles of engineering class won the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest by building a prototype air conditioning unit that would use irrigation water to cool buildings.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports (https://bit.ly/QfROvt) the students were notified Tuesday. Their project is one of five winners in the United States.
The students will travel to Washington, D.C., for an April 30 awards ceremony.
