SELDEN, N.Y. (AP) - Police on Long Island have arrested a high school science teacher on charges he sexually abused a female student.

Police say 47-year-old Stephen Malusa, of Selden, was arraigned Tuesday on charges of sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

It wasn’t clear if Malusa had a lawyer. A telephone number listed for him was disconnected.

Police say Malusa is a science teacher at Ward Melville High School.

They say the alleged sexual abuse happened in May 2013.
