HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) - Jury deliberations are expected to begin Wednesday in the trial of a man charged in the shooting death of his girlfriend’s husband last summer outside a central Pennsylvania bar.
Forty-one-year-old Theodore Meriweather is charged with criminal homicide in Dauphin County in the June slaying of 53-year-old John Lumpkins in Harrisburg.
PennLive.com (https://bit.ly/1muCQyp ) reports that defense attorney Roy Galloway argued Tuesday that his client acted in self-defense after the other man threatened him.
Meriweather testified that Lumpkins had threatened him with a knife during another confrontation a year earlier.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Michael Rozman said the defendant should have grabbed a cellphone rather than a gun if he felt threatened.
He urged jurors to convict Meriweather of first-degree murder or lesser charges of third-degree murder or voluntary manslaughter.
