RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) - A judge in Rapid City has ordered a woman who admitted slapping a 9-year-old child to write the child a letter of apology.

Twenty-nine-year-old Martha American Horse was accused of hitting the child last December and bruising the child’s nose. The Rapid City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1j3gdOG ) that American Horse pleaded guilty to simple assault and prosecutors dropped a felony child abuse charge.

Judge Wally Eklund sentenced her to serve a month in jail, take parenting classes and write the apology letter.
