AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - A former Central Texas jailer accused of molesting an inmate in 2011 has pleaded guilty to official oppression and served a day behind bars.
Benjamin Arriola was fired as a Travis County corrections officer following the incident.
The Austin American-Statesman (https://bit.ly/1h9C3iN ) reported Tuesday that Arriola was arrested in August 2011 and charged with improper sexual activity with a person in custody. The state jail felony carries a penalty of up to two years in custody.
Arriola instead pleaded guilty to official oppression, a class A misdemeanor, and was sentenced to a day in jail. He served the time earlier this month.
Investigators say the victim was in custody facing a family violence assault charge when he reported being molested by Arriola.
Further details on the inmate weren’t immediately available.
