YONKERS, N.Y. (AP) - The U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld the corruption convictions of two former Yonkers politicians.
The three-judge panel on Tuesday rejected the appeals of former City Councilwoman Sandy Annabi and Yonkers Republican Chairman Zerhy Hereis (JEHR’-ish).
Annabi was convicted in 2012 of accepting $200,000 to change her vote on real estate deals. Jereis worked with developers to control Annabi’s votes.
The Journal News (https://lohud.us/1ryUK43 ) says the judges agreed with the trial judge that the evidence was sufficient for a jury to “conclude beyond a reasonable doubt that the payments Jereis made to Annabi were part of a corrupt agreement.”
Annabi is serving a six-year prison term. Jereis was sentenced to four years in prison.
Their lawyers didn’t return phone calls seeking comment.
