KEARNY, N.J. (AP) - New Jersey Transit says rail service between Newark Penn Station and New York Penn Station is now back to normal.
The service had been suspended Wednesday afternoon due to a brush fire in Newark and Kearny.
Riders on the Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast Line, Raritan Valley Line and Midtown Directs trains had been dealing with long delays after service was restored. But those delays were mostly gone as the evening commute got started.
PATH also suspended its service due to the fire, but later resumed regular operations in both directions between Newark and Journal Square.
No injuries were reported after the brush fire broke out, but officials say strong winds had hampered efforts to contain the blaze.
