3rd suspect in Aspen slaying appears in court

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - A judge says prosecutors can see jail records of who visits the third suspect in the death of Aspen resident Nancy Pfister.

Fifty-six-year-old Katherine M. Carpenter appeared in Pitkin County District Court Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder and conspiracy.

The Aspen Times reports (https://tinyurl.com/p5qv3ke ) Carpenter’s lawyer argued records of her jail visitors should be off-limits to prosecutors under attorney-client privilege. The judge disagreed.

Pfister’s body was found in her home Feb. 26. Authorities haven’t said how or where she died.

William Styler III and Nancy Styler, a husband and wife who rented Pfister’s home while she was overseas, also face murder charges.

Another hearing is scheduled April 2 for all three defendants.

Pfister was 57. Her parents, Betty and Art Pfister, co-founded the Buttermilk ski area west of Aspen.
