ST. LOUIS (AP) - A shuttered St. Louis County mall that opened to rave reviews a half-century ago goes on sale next month at an online auction.

Crestwood Plaza was the St. Louis area’s first regional mall when it opened in 1957. By the time it closed last fall, it was known as Crestwood Court and had just one remaining store.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1m3J5WY ) reports that a commercial real estate firm has scheduled a three-day auction beginning on April 21.The minimum starting bid is $1 million, and the company suggests the property’s best use is as a tear-down site.

A Chicago-based firm had hoped to redevelop the mall but dropped that plan last year after failing to get local tax incentives to overhaul the property.
