SALEM, Mass. (AP) - A Salem woman is wondering how she’s going to get to the grocery store after someone stole her motorized wheelchair.
Patricia Champagne says took the wheelchair with her to get groceries last Thursday, then stored it as usual behind her apartment building. She lives in the second floor and it’s too heavy to carry upstairs.
Saturday, the $5,000 wheelchair was gone.
The 53-year-old Champagne was struck by a car while on bicycle four years ago and can only walk short distances without pain. She needs the wheelchair to go shopping.
Police are investigating and suspect someone sold it as scrap.
Champagne tells The Salem News (https://bit.ly/OVbH9L ) she can’t afford to buy a new one and just hopes it was stolen by someone who gave it to someone who needs it.
