PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix couple is accused of abuse for allegedly refusing to feed a baby for three weeks.

Police arrested 27-year-old Veronica Marie Diaz and her 32-year-old boyfriend Ryan Adam Morris on Monday. They’re both being held on suspicion of child or vulnerable adult abuse.

At their initial court appearances Tuesday, bond was set at $150,000 for Diaz and $10,000 for Morris. Neither has a lawyer yet.

Court records show the 9-month-old child weighed about 7 pounds when it was taken to a hospital Sunday.

Diaz told police she ran out of baby formula March 1 and had been giving the baby bottled water during the day and some milk at night.

Morris told police that he was unable to buy more baby formula because he had to pay other bills.
