GOLDEN, Colo. (AP) - Jefferson County officials say a jail inmate being held on a parole violation has been mistakenly released.

The sheriff’s department says 40-year-old Damon Elliot Slayton was freed Tuesday morning.

Slayton was being held for the state Department of Corrections. The original charges against him were theft, burglary and robbery.

The sheriff’s department says no foul play is suspected in Slayton’s release but an investigation is underway.
