HECKER, Ill. (AP) - A 500-resident southwestern Illinois village will pay $50,000 to settle a discrimination lawsuit over its denying requests by nonprofit groups to build two group homes for the developmentally disabled.

The Belleville News-Democrat (https://bit.ly/1nUzTsF) reports that Hecker in Monroe County southeast of St. Louis settled the federal lawsuit by Human Support Services, Monroe County Apartments 4 Association and two disabled people.

As part of the settlement, the village doesn’t admit any liability or wrongdoing.

Construction of the homes now is underway in Hecker and is expected to be completed in May. Each home will accommodate four residents.
