CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Charleston lawyer has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for tax evasion.
Sixty-five-year-old Harold Albertson was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Charleston.
Albertson pleaded guilty in December and agreed to pay more than $1 million in restitution to former clients, investors and the Internal Revenue Service.
According to federal prosecutors, Albertson kept his client’s funds and his personal funds in one bank account. He paid personal expenses from the account and didn’t keep any records. He also promised investors a high rate of return that was never paid.
