LAS VEGAS (AP) - Authorities have identified a 29-year-old Las Vegas officer who shot and wounded a woman who was wielding a knife.

Police say Officer Esmeralda Boveda is on paid administrative leave while officials investigate the Friday night confrontation.

Police say they responded to reports of a domestic disturbance a little after 9 p.m. when the suspect was spotted walking along Tropicana Avenue near Celo Lane.

Authorities say Boveda got out of her patrol car, and the suspect approached her and raised the knife. That’s when police say the officer shot the suspect twice.

The woman, who’s been identified Tania Torres-Espinoza, was taken to Sunrise Hospital. She faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon and resisting a public officer with a weapon.
