PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Federal authorities said a Philadelphia man pleaded guilty to fraud and conspiracy charges stemming from a series of online scams that victimized dozens of people nationwide.

KYW-AM (https://cbsloc.al/1eG4bJG) said 57-year-old Dave Brister admitted in court Monday to cheating a couple of dozen victims out of a total of nearly $100,000 from 2008 to 2012.

He is being sentenced June 17.

Prosecutor Mark Dubnoff says the defendant was involved in fake job offers or sales deals, some based on Craigslist postings.

The scams involved the victims getting counterfeit checks or money orders from a third party.

Authorities said Brister would take a cut, and then send the rest of the proceeds to his co-conspirators in Africa and Europe.
