RUSHVILLE, Neb. (AP) - The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission says a Sheridan County landowner has reported killing a young mountain lion.

The commission said in a news release Monday that the 30-pound female was shot Friday after it approached the landowner’s chicken coop. The landowner says the mountain lion didn’t flee even when the landowner walked within 15 yards of it.

The commission says the landowner reported the incident as required by law. The law allows landowners to protect their livestock from predators.

Mountain lions are also called cougars, pumas or catamounts.
