SAN DIEGO (AP) - A driver has been rescued after his car crashed through a guardrail and landed upside down in a San Diego creek.

U-T San Diego says (https://bit.ly/1mqgXjU) another driver jumped into the water to help after seeing the car careen into the water at Tecolote Creek late Sunday. Witnesses say other passers-by also stopped to help.

San Diego Fire-Rescue spokesman Lee Swanson says the 31-year-old man was unconscious but breathing when he was pulled from the mostly submerged car near Fiesta Island. He was rushed to a hospital in unknown condition.

San Diego lifeguards checked the creek for other passengers, but none were found.

Police are trying to determine what caused the car to crash.
