CHICAGO (AP) - Parts of Chicago’s Lake Shore Drive will be closed for the day as the first phase of construction starts on a Navy Pier overpass with pedestrian and bike lanes.
Chicago Department of Transportation officials say the right lane and shoulder of northbound upper Lake Shore Drive will be closed Monday.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1df1PTw ) that the lakefront trail will stay open for pedestrians and cyclists, but will detour around construction. Area homes and businesses will be accessible.
The $60 million project will go south of the Chicago River to an area park. It’ll separate the lakefront trail from two busy streets and the area. The flyover is expected to be finished in 2018.
