TOQUERVILLE, Utah (AP) - A teenager has been arrested in the shooting death of a 58-year-old woman in her southern Utah home.
Washington County sheriff’s deputies say 17-year-old Joshua Canfield was booked into the county jail on suspicion of homicide.
He’s accused of shooting Geraldine Bommarito in her Toquerville home sometime late Tuesday or early Wednesday.
Investigators captured Canfield on Wednesday but did not announce his arrest until Saturday.
Deputies responded early Wednesday to reports that a home was burglarized and guns were stolen.
A tipster later reported seeing a car that had been in the area of the break-in. Deputies say they ran the license plate and traced it to a home separate from the place where the burglary was reported, and found Bommarito had been killed.
Authorities say her stolen vehicle was found burned near Springdale, and that the suspect knew her but wasn’t related to her.
