NEWPORT, Wash. (AP) - A man who escaped from the Pend Oreille (pahn-duh-RAY’) County Jail in Newport last month is back in custody.

A deputy arrested Ryan Apling on Saturday during a traffic stop.

KREM reports (https://bit.ly/1hbeToD ) Apling he was a passenger in the car. The driver and another passenger were arrested for investigation of rendering criminal assistance.

The 29-year-old Apling escaped Feb. 12, apparently by climbing fences around the recreation yard. Blood in the snow indicated he cut himself on the razor wire.

Deputies from Washington and Idaho and Border Patrol units with tracking dogs followed the trail for several miles before it was lost.

Apling had been in jail for failure to appear on charges of trespassing and driving with a suspended license.
