OAK FOREST, Ill. (AP) - Hundreds of people attended a weekend funeral for a longtime suburban Chicago police officer who died after a crash in Oak Forest.

The Southtown Star reports (https://bit.ly/1poLrQw ) mourners from around the state attended Saturday’s funeral for 62-year-old James Morrissey. He died last Monday, hours after his squad car was broadsided while he was responding to a call.

Oak Forest Deputy Police Chief Timothy Kristin eulogized Morrissy, calling him “a great man.”



The newspaper says thousands of people, including about 300 first responders, attended a visitation in Orland Park on Friday

Morrissey worked for the Oak Forest police department for 34 years.
