MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Berkeley County man serving a life sentence for murder has died in prison.

The West Virginia Division of Corrections says 55-year-old Carl Eugene Manford died last month at the Mount Olive Correctional Complex in Mount Olive. Officials say Manford had been sick, but they couldn’t provide details because of privacy laws.

The Journal (https://bit.ly/ND69jj ) reports that Manford’s body has been sent for an autopsy, but prison officials say they’re still awaiting a report on the cause of death.

Manford was convicted of the June 2008 bludgeoning death of 34-year-old James Darrell Tucker of Falling Waters.
