TICONDEROGA, N.Y. (AP) - Fort Ticonderoga is accepting applications from teachers to participate in this summer’s weeklong Teacher Institute that immerses attendees in the story of the upstate New York historic site.

Officials at the fort say that this year’s institute will focus on Ticonderoga in 1776, the year America declared its independence from England and the famous fortification was at the center of military campaigns.

The institute will accept 14 teachers for the program, scheduled for July 13-17. Full-time classroom teachers and school librarians in public, charter, independent and religiously-affiliated schools are eligible to apply.

Those accepted will spend the week digging into the fort’s extensive collection of 18th-century documents, artifacts and other objects related to Fort Ticonderoga in 1776.

More information can be found on the fort’s website, www.fort-ticonderoga.org .
