ABINGDON, Va. (AP) - An Abingdon man has won a $3.4 million prize in the Virginia Lottery.
The Bristol Herald Courier (https://bit.ly/OIEOxf ) reports that Billy DeBusk spent $20 on one of the lottery’s scratch-off games. When he scratched off the numbers, he discovered that the 50X the Money ticket was worth up to $5 million. That’s the game’s top prize.
DeBusk could have taken $5 million over 30 years, but he chose the one-time cash option of $3.4 million before taxes. He told lottery officials he plans to invest his winnings.
According to the lottery’s website, the odds of winning the top prize in the 50X the Money game are about one in 2.4 million.
