1 man killed, another wounded in Newark shooting

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - One man was killed and another was seriously wounded when gunfire erupted on a Newark street.

Essex County prosecutors say the shooting occurred early Friday night, near 18th Avenue and Smith Street.

The Star-Ledger (https://bit.ly/1gKfuwy) reports that 23-year-old city resident Jawan Carson died Saturday morning at a hospital. The other victim - a 24-year-old man whose name was not released - was in critical condition.

Further details on the shooting, including what type of weapon was used and how many assailants may have been involved, were not released.

A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.

No arrests have been made.
