LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) - A central Nebraska fourth-grader has won first place in an annual state severe weather poster contest.
John Kaslon, of Ashton, is a fourth-grade student from St. Paul Public School. He earned first place with his poster that depicts a tornado approaching a farm and includes an inside look at a basement with an emergency kit full of supplies.
The contest, open to Nebraska’s fourth-grade students, is sponsored by the Nebraska Association of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.
The top finishers were recognized by Gov. Dave Heineman at a ceremony last week in Lincoln.
Second-place winner was Takaylynn Hergott, of Hebron, and in third place was Joshua Jerabek, of Farwell. Ensley Frame, of Omaha, took fourth place.
