GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (AP) - A New York man charged with the first bank robbery in Stockbridge in nearly 80 years has been held on $250,000 bail.
Christopher Blair of Hillsdale, N.Y., pleaded not guilty Thursday in Southern Berkshire District Court to charges of felony unarmed robbery and larceny over $250 and misdemeanor assault and battery for allegedly robbing a Lee Bank branch on March 10.
He was caught by New York State Police hours later and has been in jail there awaiting rendition to Massachusetts.
The Berkshire Eagle (https://bit.ly/1jghss8 ) reports that Blair’s lawyer waived the initial bail argument until a later date.
Authorities say Blair was motivated by heroin addiction.
Police say the last bank robbery in the town famous for Norman Rockwell and “Alice’s Restaurant” was 1935, and that was the first.
