METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies say a 44-year-old Metairie woman, who volunteered to handle the books for the Lakeshore Playground booster club, allegedly stole more than $48,000 from the organization.

Col. John Fortunato says Melisa Colomb surrendered to deputies Thursday and was booked with computer fraud and theft valued at more $1,500.

The Lakeshore Indians Booster Club Inc. runs the concession stand at the playground and raises money for equipment.

Fortunato says Colomb served as the booster club’s treasurer.

He says Colomb contacted the sheriff’s office on Tuesday through an attorney and agreed to surrender on Thursday.
