CORUNNA, Mich. (AP) - A man who placed a friend’s body in a trash bin after a drug overdose has been sentenced to 11 months in jail.

The body of Aaron Idle likely ended up in a landfill in Genesee County a year ago and can’t be recovered. James Cummings was sentenced Friday for lying to a police officer. He didn’t speak in Shiawassee County court.

Defense attorney John Homola tells the Lansing State Journal (https://on.lsj.com/1r6Vltz) that Cummings panicked when the 30-year-old Idle died in Owosso Township, about 30 miles northeast of Lansing. Cummings waited a few months before telling police what happened.

Judge Gerald Lostracco says there’s “no closure” for Idle’s family because the body hasn’t been recovered. Idle’s mother, Pamela Idle, says it’s difficult to drive by the landfill on U.S. 23.
