BASTROP, La. (AP) - A former Morehouse Parish sheriff’s deputy was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a felony theft charge.
The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1gi4Vqh ) Chris Balsamo, a former lieutenant, was sentenced Thursday. He resigned after the initial charges were filed in November 2011.
The judge suspended a sentence of seven years hard labor for two years of supervised probation. Balsamo also was sentenced to a $1,000 fine plus court costs, which he must pay before March 2015. If he does not pay the fine, he must serve 100 days.
Assistant District Attorney Devin Jones said the judge considered Balsamo’s lack of criminal history in the sentencing.
