Eastern Idaho jail reduces cost per inmate

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) - The Bonneville County Jail in eastern Idaho reduced the cost per day to house an inmate by 17 percent from 2010 to 2013.

Bonneville County Sheriff Paul Wilde tells the Post Register (https://bit.ly/1gil4vY) the savings are the result of cutting unnecessary costs and bringing in income by housing Idaho Department of Correction’s inmates.

The most recent jail information shows that the average cost per inmate per day fell from $78.10 in 2010 to $64.52 in 2013.

Wilde says that last year the jail held about 365 inmates a day.
