LASALLE, Ill. (AP) - A school bus swerving to avoid hitting a pair of deer has skidded off a road in rural LaSalle County and tipped onto its side, injuring the driver and two children.

Sandwich School District 430 Superintendent Rick Schmitt tells WBBM-TV (https://cbsloc.al/NAgzQz ) that the bus was taking children to Lighted Way, a school for students with special needs in LaSalle.

He says the driver swerved to avoid hitting two deer on U.S. Route 52 around 8 a.m. Friday.

The bus skidded on loose gravel and toppled onto its side in a ditch.

Schmitt says two children and the driver were taken to Mendota Community Hospital with minor injuries.

He says the children have since been released.
