EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) - A southern Illinois man was found guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths nine years ago of a pregnant woman and a 4-year-old child.
A Madison County jury on Thursday found 58-year-old Kevin Reid guilty of the 2005 murders of Anquiaette Parker and her young cousin, Cermen Toney, who she was babysitting at the time. He then hid their bodies in a cistern near his home. Their bodies were found in 2008 by a crew clearing brush in the area.
The Belleville News-Democrat reports (https://bit.ly/1gEcwdd ) prosecutor Jennifer Vucich said in closing arguments the incident started as a drug deal, one of hundreds Parker may have executed in unincorporated State Park Place.
Defense attorney John Rekowski attacked prosecution witnesses’ testimony, including jailhouse informant Michael Scott, who he contended wasn’t credible.
