MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (AP) - A Marshalltown day care provider accused of causing a toddler’s head injury has entered a plea deal.
The Marshalltown Times-Republican reports (https://bit.ly/1lTTowN ) 54-year-old Rhonda Van Gorp recently entered an Alford plea to child endangerment.
An Alford plea means a defendant doesn’t admit guilt but agrees that evidence is strong enough to convict them.
Van Gorp was charged in April 2012 following a five-month investigation into the head trauma of a 15-month-old baby. The toddler had been under the care of Van Gorp at her home day care.
As part of the deal, the Marshall County Attorney will recommend a deferred judgment and one year of unsupervised probation and suspended penalty during sentencing. Sentencing is set for March 31.
