HERNANDO, Miss. (AP) - Hernando aldermen expect to hear April 1 from a group looking at options for the city-owned Memorial Park cemetery.
Alderman Gary Higdon tells The Commercial Appeal (https://bit.ly/1jaMYaR ) the group has been studying all options, from hiring a management firm or a full-time city-employed caretaker to selling the property and getting out of the cemetery business.
Mayor Chip Johnson contends reports of irregularities at Memorial Park, including misplaced bodies and exposed caskets, have been blown out of proportion but acknowledges a number of “tremendous mistakes” have been made.
Memorial Park was deeded to Hernando during the 1950s.
