PHOENIX (AP) - An Arizona House committee has approved a Senate bill that would exempt gun owners from misconduct involving weapons charges if they enter a public building that bans guns but does not have storage lockers.
The bill would prohibit law enforcement from charging someone with the misdemeanor count of misconduct involving weapons if the person carried a gun into a public building banning firearms but without storage lockers.
The Senate initially voted Senate Bill 1063 down but approved it after sponsor Sen. Rick Murphy of Glendale brought it back for reconsideration. The House Committee on Judiciary approved it with a 4-2 vote on Thursday.
The bill is similar to one in passed in the House of Representatives that would allow concealed carry permit holders to take guns into government buildings.
