PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say a 3-year-old boy is dead after his stroller was struck by a vehicle in west Phoenix.

Phoenix police say the incident occurred about 1 p.m. Thursday on a private access-road at the Desert Sky Esplanade near 75th Avenue and McDowell Road.

They say the child was in a stroller being pushed by his babysitter, who was slightly injured.

Police say the babysitter was leaving the shopping center when she attempted to cross a private road maintained by the property’s owners.

Witnesses say the vehicle’s driver heeded a stop sign but then continued on and hit the woman and stroller.

The names of the boy and the babysitter haven’t been released.

Police are investigating the 22-year-old driver for possible impairment and determining if there is any negligence or recklessness.
