HEMLOCK, N.Y. (AP) - A 61-year-old man is in custody on felony charges after a woman’s body was found in the woods behind his Livingston County home.

Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty tells media outlets that a deputy went to a house in the hamlet of Hemlock Friday evening after an out-of-state resident said he couldn’t reach his mother. Nobody was home, so deputies started a search. They found the missing woman’s husband, Gary Flemke, in the nearby village, and later found a woman’s body in the woods.

Authorities are withholding the woman’s name until the body is positively identified.

Flemke is charged with evidence tampering and is in jail on $250,000 bail. It could not be immediately determined if he has a lawyer.
