LOS ANGELES (AP) - Los Angeles has agreed to pay $500,000 to the parents of a 3-month-old boy killed when a driver plowed into his stroller during a downtown Art Walk.
City News Service says the City Council voted Wednesday to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by the parents of Marcello Vasquez.
The suit says a car trying to park jumped the curb in July of 2011, hit two pedestrians and the stroller. The baby was flung out and killed. The suit claimed the city failed to put up traffic barriers for the public art display, which drew thousands of people.
The suit also named the Art Walk organizers and the car’s driver and owner.
The parents’ attorney, Jonathan Dennis, says the family is happy that the city resolved the case.
