MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Berkeley County health officials are seeking the public’s input on a proposed expansion of the county’s smoking ban.

The proposal would extend the ban to bars, private clubs and all public spaces. The existing policy bans smoking in restaurants and enclosed public spaces, such as grocery stores and business offices.

Media outlets report that about 80 people attended the Berkeley County Health Department board’s meeting Tuesday. Seventeen spoke regarding the proposal. A majority of the speakers opposed expanding the smoking ban.

Board members decided to put the proposal out for a 30-day public comment period.
