SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Parish School Board members voted 7 to 4 to approve a revised communication policy that covers how board members discuss issues with the media and public.

The proposed policy approved Monday encourages board members to defer to board President Carl Pierson or Superintendent Lamar Goree when asked about issues that have been put to a vote and settled. Some board members contend the policy applies only to the media. Others believe it could affect how board members discuss issues with constituents.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1kIcdDd ) the revised policy proposal includes a section that reads the policy is not intended to prohibit board members from making individual comments regarding matters of interest to the public; however, individual board member comments are not to be considered comments of the board.
