NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - State wildlife officials say an endangered panther has been found dead in South Florida.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that the remains of the 4-year-old collared male were collected Monday on the Everglades and Francis Taylor Wildlife Management Area in Broward County.
The carcass will be sent to the FWC Gainesville lab for necropsy, which will determine a cause of death.
This is the seventh panther death of 2014.
Florida panthers once roamed the entire southeastern U.S., but only around 160 remain in the wild.
