COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Officials say a diesel fuel spill into the Kalamazoo River has been traced back to a greenhouse that had its fuel storage tank vandalized.
The Kalamazoo Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1p833js ) officials on Tuesday worked to come up with a cleanup plan for the spill in Kalamazoo County.
Don Klooster, owner of Klooster’s Greenhouse, says he’s frustrated by the spill. He says they’re “in the business of beautifying the Earth, not polluting it.” Klooster says the spill on Monday was traced back through storm drains to the above-ground tank.
Klooster says it appears the tank’s valve had been tampered with in a possible weekend theft attempt. The tank holds a at most few hundred gallons of fuel.
The tank is used to fuel generators in the event of a power failure.
