BASTROP, La. (AP) - Two Morehouse Parish elementary schools would not be closed and the district would consider a four-day school week in a new plan that will be presented to the board, the administration and the community.
The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1eg6qmF ) the new plan is in response to one unveiled by Superintendent George Noflin, who had been tasked with cutting $3.4 million in expenditures to balance the district’s budget for the upcoming school year.
Noflin’s plan included consolidating schools, which would result in the closure of two elementary schools along with the reclassification of some employees and the loss of 18 positions through a reduction in force.
The plan to be presented Tuesday night reduces four teaching positions and one librarian and reduces three teachers at Morehouse Junior High and at Morehouse Magnet School.
