MOUNT HOPE, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 69-year-old man has died in a late-night fire at his upstate New York home.
Troopers say Orange County emergency dispatchers received a call shortly after 10 p.m. Monday reporting a fire at a home in the town of Mount Hope, on the Sullivan County line 60 miles northwest of New York City.
Firefighters from several local fire departments responded. When the blaze was extinguished, the body of the homeowner, William C. Novak Jr., was found inside. Novak was a former town supervisor for Mount Hope.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Troopers say arson isn’t suspected.
